Heroes at Home Review (Zeb Wells, Gurihiru)
Zeb Wells puts his years of experience writing on Robot Chicken to good use, teaming up with artist Gurihiru to bring us a Sunday Funnies-style look at what the Marvel heroes did during lockdown quarantine.
The Venom short is definitely the funniest as Eddie Brock uses the symbiote for short cuts: as a paper towel to clean up a kitchen mess, as a mask when he goes out - but the symbiote draws the line somewhere!
I also liked seeing Thor cutting his own hair, Captain Marvel zoom-calling her cosmic battles and Hulk joining in clapping for essential workers. Spider-Man baking with web fluid, Black Panther getting around social distancing and Wolverine doing a DIY jigsaw puzzle weren’t that great, and I’m not convinced Cap would ever let the dishes pile up in the sink (he’s a military neat freak, right?).
Gurihiru’s art is good as it always is and suits the light-hearted tone perfectly. It’s a really dinky book (5 inches x 5 inches) and it’s mostly “silent” so you’ll fly through this in no time.
Heroes at Home isn’t anything amazing but it’s a cute bit of fun from Marvel for these strange times.
